Joining LIUNA IN New Brunswick is easy. Here’s how:

Step 1: Contact LIUNA
Call LIUNA Local 900. In Moncton, call 506-858-1404. In Saint John call 506-633-1700. Or call toll-free from anywhere in the province: 1-800-332-3985. Or email us. Ask to speak with an Organizer. He or she is a specialist in labour law and will answer all your questions. All contacts with LIUNA are confidential. No obligation.

Step 2: Sign LIUNA Membership Cards
With the guidance of an Organizer, you and your co-workers sign LIUNA membership cards. The employer never sees these cards. LIUNA Organizers are sworn to protect confidentiality.

Step 3  Vote for LIUNA (if this is a necessary step)
In non-construction sectors, if at least 40% but not more than 60% of the workers sign cards the New Brunswick Labour and Employment Board may hold a representation vote.  If the majority votes for the union, it is certified.

If more than 50% sign cards, the Board may certify the Union without a representation vote.

In the construction industry, if the majority of the employees in the bargaining unit are members of Union or have selected the Union to represent them, the Board will certify the Union without a vote.

LIUNA Will Protect Your Rights Under New Brunswick Labour Law

Most employers would rather not have their employees represented by a union. But the choice is not theirs. Under New Brunswick labour law, your employer cannot interfere with your decision to join a union. Employers can talk about the union generally but are forbidden from making any promises or threats, or to do anything that might prevent employees from making a free decision.

If your employer breaks the law, LIUNA will take legal steps to enforce your rights.

What are you waiting for?
